Welcome, Lzy M!

Hi! I'm new to BYC. I'm from Albuquerque. I don't have any poultry yet, but plan on getting a few Welsh Harlequin ducks in the spring. Any ideas for nest and run materials to keep it from getting too wet and messy?

Hi Shadow, I've never had ducks, in part due to that water mess you're talking about. Nice thing is that we are so dry here, it's probably not as bad as other places.

Just wanted to say Hi! Hope you get some good ideas for your pen

I have my ducks in my back yard. They have an 8ft round stock tank (700+ Gal I think) to swim in. Once a week or so I use a very small pond pump to take water out and water my plants. Works great! The tank has a very large ramp for them to get in and out. There is absolutely no mud, no mess, no smell.

Thanks Lzy M for your input!

Next question: In researching where to get poultry, the least expensive option seems to be buying from Privett Hatchery. I've read good and bad things about them. Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy from them? Can I drive out to Portales and pick them up myself, or do I have to have them shipped to me?

I think u can pick them up but I would definitely call and place the order. The website is very hard to navigate and not user friendly. I would buy from them. I love that they are nm local!
