What do you plan to show this Nov? I have a couple of young birds who *might* be worthy of showing... we'll see as the time gets closer.

Depending on how they look, I will have Cochins, Brahmas, Ameraucanas, and maybe OEGBs and BBRs

Blaundee, you can set up a sprinkler timer on a cheap 9volt $20 timer for any sort of hose system, so electricity is not an issue... I've been doing the same, just wetting down their run mid day so they have some cool dirt to roll around in... Debated on a mister system but I figure these temps are not the norm and usually only here for a few weeks a yr if at all most years... Just had a Wyandotte start limping today, not a heat issue obviously, but worries me nonetheless...

To much moisture on the ground can start causing all kinds of foot problems doesnt it. bumble foot and what not or am i wrong.

Yes, too much moisture can cause all sorts of issues in all livestock... hahaha danged if you do, darned if you dont lol
Im not worried about any issues, though, because its just so dry... ugh. The area is like a tinderbox just waiting for a spark- so sad.

we got hammered the day before yesterday with a nice ran storm . It was flooding the whole forest Rd.







so i have some male ducks free ranging on my land. It was the best looking Rouen male i had. Check these photos out, he has lost his grey chest and the green in his head is going now. hes turning into a female for all i can tell. I didn't know that was possible. as of right now hes just a cross dresser and still sounds like a male. lol. The khaki Chambell is a male also but his neck and head is looking lighter now also.








Here is the new cage i built for my RIR roo. I have 6 more to build for my other roos, I'm going to pull the females out and let them run free in the coup but keep my males separate for now on.

Steen- I dont know much about ducks except that they are cute, I dont like their eggs & they are messy LOL I have never seen a male moult out into female color, so maybe someone on here can tell us why this is happening? Very intriguing... a cross dressing duck lol Nice cage, we have been working on sheep pens- Hubby bought me my "dream sheep", a high percentage Friesian ewe lamb from Irish Cream Dairy up in NE, she is coming this week, Im super excited! MIL got 2 for herself, so now our sheep flock is up to 7 ewes & 1 ram... now if only I could come up with an idea for something my hubby would wear made from their wool.... he's so picky- he did say he might wear socks or slippers I'm going to make some sweaters formyself, I have several cute crochet patterns & I hate to be cold... plus long winters allow for a lot of crochet time lol

We had mallardy ducks on our pond and the males would moult into female-looking ones all the time. Come breeding season they sprout back to their normal coloring, though. It's not so much cross-dressing as it is hormonal downtime.

I hooked up a $15 "coil stand" mister to a garden hose. I put it inside the run and I run it for most of the hot hours. At first the birds were afraid of it, but now they love it! (And they are so clean, lol!.)
