Luna, welcome! I'm your neighbor down in Cliff. Nice to have a few of us from the bootheel down here. I've got my first bantams in the brooder right now, and they're darling! They're blue cochins.

Welcome! I have an aunt who adores bantams, but she doesn't live nearby unfortunately. My birds are full-sized (3 RIR and soon 2 Ameraucana)

Cheers,

Hi all - I think a swap is a great idea, maybe in spring. And maybe we can have a bbq at the same time. Albuquerque seems the likey place to meet since it's in the middle, but other places could work great too. I'd be happy to host the meetup at my house in ABQ, though it is kind of small. What do you all think?

I could try and get there, just depends on the date. I have a lot of room but I'm as far South as you can get too, not central enough.
I wouldn't mind just having a friendly get together too, lunch meeting or something.

wow this all sounds so great. hmmm chicken people getting together hahaha. however new mexico is a big spreadout state and it seems all of us on here from new mexico are all over the map hahaha. well ill put my bid in im in deming as a few of u know i have a full bar and 5 acres and a big house. i also love to cook haha. either way it sound like a good idea.

One day my grown sons and I were sitting on my porch visiting and my bantams were out eating grasshoppers when the neighbors dog came in my yard and got after my birds. We ran him off four times, and when he came back, I got my shotgun, and before we could stop him he grabbed a hen and lit out for home. I walked up to the neighbors house and there on his porch was my chicken, dead in the dogs mouth, I gave the dog both barrells, and when the guy came out I just pointed at his mutt, and walked home. Later he told me that he had an electric fence around his front yard and the dog had a collar that was supposed to stop the dog, but that his dog would run and jump across the wire to escape. Well, two 12 guage shells stopped him once and for all.
If you''re not willing to do that, catch the dog at night and haul him off and shoot him away from town. You shouldn't have to put up with that nonsense. Seems most folks have more dogs than I have chickens.
