My unsubstantiated "opinion" is that I would keep the chicks on the 20% Protein until they are fully grown (another couple of months) and then taper it back to the 15-16% Layer feed at 5 months.

Our turkey grower here is 27% protein, and it feeds cornish X babies out beautifully. But I don't know about giving that high of protein to layers. 20% might be really nice!

I watched Espanola play in the state basketball tourney at the pit this past March, and you guys sure have a good ball team!

I'm really not sure what our little Peep is lol. This is our first chicken, so I've been looking for any and all kinds of info on raising, breeds, sexing, you name it lol! This is our Chicken we call Dog aka Peep

Hi there. I did an intro but didn't know about this New Mexico board. I am on the outskirts of Abq. in Corrales, NM. Just moved here over a year ago with my husband and three children.
Love it here.

I have 5 chicks that are now 3 months old. They are lovely girls and very friendly.
We are finishing our converted horse barn/hen house. Need to get the last of the chicken wire up this weekend.
I wanted Cochins as my first flock but could not find any in my area. I hunted and hunted. Now I have found this website and have more resources for locating a Cochin girl. So I got a variety from feed stores equaling 5.

Anyone in New Mexico know where to find a Cochin breeder locally?

Nice to meet you all.

I have Cochin youngsters now. Some from show breeders. I may have LF black and golden-laced eggs and chicks next year.
I am in Aztec now, but used to live in Albuquerque near Corrales.
