New Mexico

My 5 year old would love to show a hen and get into 4-H someday. I just need to find show quality hens I guess. I think my only pure bred is my Jersey Giant. I need to read up on how to show and what it takes to teach my daughter. Great to see so many NM chicken lovers.

EDIT

Does anyone know of any poultry swaps going on in New Mexico? Any info appreciated.
Thanks.

Yeah, I know of two:
One is in Edgewood at one of the feed stores... it's listed on abq craigslist here is the link http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/grd/1804731689.htm
Another is at Farmer's feed on 4th street NE in abq. I think it's the first saturday of every month.

I have been to the one in Edgewood... it should have alot of people buying and selling now that it's the summer. it slows down in the winter.
I have not been to the one at farmer's... i just heard about it.
hope this helps.

Is anyone out there showing chickens, and who do you get to do your NPIP testing and where do you get the paperwork? dak

Another new Albuquerque chicken keeper here.

Re: the swap meet at Farmer's Feed. We happened to go by one day when they were having it- All I saw were non-chicken fowl.

For hatchery chickens, Town & Country feed will order 5 of any breed from Privett. Not sure about finding local breeders.

Hi to my fellow New Mexicans. I live east of Albuquerque. We have a small flock--7 chickens--and are really enjoying them so far. I have been lurking here for a month or so and picking up tons of tips!!
