New Mexico

Hello Colie <3,

I've ALWAYS thought of El Paso as being MORE "New Mexico" than Texas. Perhaps we can trade Hobbs for El Paso...

Colie <3 :

Hello from El Paso, TX everybody! Not many people on BYC that live this far west in TX so I thought I'd pop into New Mexico and say hi!

I'm about 40 minutes away from Las Cruces

The more the merrier! I lived in Anthony NM/TX for a short while, and have family in La Mesa.

What kind of chickens do you have?

I tried and tried to tell the Texas thread they had no idea what El Paso was like being so isolated over here in the west but the insisted all the Texas is so much the same because we're all Texans **snickers**
LOL I agree I think that El Paso is more "New Mexico" heck El Paso is more "Mexico" than it is TX

Do you all ever do any meetups or swaps?

I'm waiting for my new chicks to show up this week sometime they are coming from Arkansas and Florida. My parents live in Kentucky and they ended up getting chickens about 5 years ago going home on visits I soon got jealous and am finally getting my own! Granted I only live on a .15 acre lot so I'm getting some bantams. Pint sized yard, pint sized chicken right?

...wow that turned into a ramble lol beat around the bush why don't I?

Baundee,

Have you candled those eggs yet? I've got 6/6 Ameraucanas developing from the ones I put in the mega-bator the day after you got yours.

For sure! They will be about 3 week old when they get here, hope they don't freak too much about being held being that age.
Are you two hatching eggs? That's my next conquest maybe a year or so from now, maybe soon if all the chicks end up being roos and I have to give them all away!

btw who want some pint sized roos in a couple of months???

I am hatching LF B/B and Lavender Ameraucanas and LF Cochins. I got a new Brinsea 190 for Christmas. I think I'm a bad influence on Blaundee.

Good luck on roo disposal. My DH is getting better at processing my extras.

Aww cool one of the breeds I'm getting are bantam Lavender Ameraucanas
big_smile.png
I'm only getting 2 I'm debating on asking to add a third just in case one turns out to be a roo and I can't keep it cause it's too noisy. I'm supposed to keep only 6 chickens (no more than three roos) but I'm going to be over that probably I don't want any super annoying roos making the neighbors mad. I've got a 7ft solid steel panel fence so if I can keep the noise down I think I'll be good
smile.png
Question though, if one rooster crows does that set the others ones off to crow as well? (like dogs lol)

So are you a hatching enabler??
big_smile.png
I was drooling over a Brinsea ECO 20 when the sale on their site was going on (it might still be...) I didn't order though because the shipping was like $40!

p.s. I pity the person trying to eat a bantam!! haha!!

The boys do seem to egg each other on, but some are noisier than others.

I think you will like the Lavender Ameraucanas. They are very friendly. What breeder are you getting them from? What if both of them are cockerels?

Hatching is an addiction. Enabling others makes it seem not so crazy. One piece of advice, you will quickly become unhappy with a cheap incubator, so start with a decent one. It's cheaper in the long run.
