Not yet, I'm planning to candle them on Sunday. I just hatched out 8 babies- 2 EEs, 2 GLCs, and 4 mix breed layer chicks from Mom's flock of "huge egg layers"

LOL Yes, DAK, you are my "chicken crack dealer"... always meeting in the corner of the parking lot or sneaking up to your house in the hills to get my fix, trying to find someone going up that way so I can get yet ANOTHER rooster... LOL It's a sad addiction!

But as my husband pointed out, they don't cost nearly as much as horses! (But I have a bunch of those too.. he thought I might lose interest in the horses! Oh, one could hope... poor guy LOL)

Now that my goose egg and duck eggs have hatched, I've got even more projects planned for dear hubby... I didn't expect those to hatch, so I don't have a waterfowl pen... YET. Now that I've got them running around in the bathtub, yelling at me when I walk by, I NEED a waterfowl pen. They stink, even though I thoroughly wash the bathtub EVERY DAY. However, I do want to say I LOVE my goose! I love love love my goosey! It is such a sweet, talkative, loving lil thing- er, big thing now- and I cannot imagine that I just a few months ago did NOT like geese!!! I love my goosey! RFLOL!!!

(I know, I'm crazy. You don't have to tell me. BUT I told hubby- They don't MAKE me crazy, they just PROVE it! LOL)

Sounds like your hatching technique is improving!

I really think you should breed the lav cockerel to some barred Rocks and work on lav barred EEs.

I recently saw some pics of partridge colored birds that had been diluted with the lav gene, VERY pretty. They were European Brahmas. Now that some decent lav Cochin bantams are being produced it would be feasible to cross them with the partridge or GLC bantam Cochins.

You got rid of one rooster to add another so even steven.

I wish you luck with the waterfowl. I've seen some varieties I would love to have, but the more I read the more work they sound like. AND messy. Cottagerose has sebastopols that are lovely and she's in Michigan. Filling kiddee pools in subzero weather doesn't sound like fun.

Check out thses beauties.

My horses are going no where, though they are eating me out of house and home. I wish I had some pasture.

Blaundee,
This Old Man (me) is AFRAID of Geese !!!
And I'm not afraid of very many animals...(Bears, Rattlesnakes, and Mountain Lions excluded)

Geese are MEAN !!!

When in Elementary School, I walked a "girlfriend" home (carrying her books, of course) and when we got in her front yard....
....Her "Pet" Goose bit my posterior !!! (He did a GOOD JOB of it, too !!! )

NO GEESE here !!!

Geese are for HUNTIN' --- NOT "Pettin' !!!

I have never liked geese much. Neighbors and friends have had them, so I've been around them enough through my life to DISLIKE them and believe that they were nasty and messy and smelly, yada, yada, yada... THEN my experimental goose egg hatched (which SHOCKED the HECK out of me, because I couldn't even get ONE out of nearly a hundred chicken eggs to hatch! I was given the goose egg when I was about to give up on incubating, and NEVER thought it would hatch!!!)

Once that goosey hatched out, ALL of my thoughts about geese changed!!! LOL I am a total goose convert! I LOVE my Sunshine goosey!!!
smile.png
Now I need some Sebastapols.... (my goose needs more geese to hang out with, right? You can't have JUST one all by itself...

I worked in the school cafeteria during high school to make a few extra bucks. There was a candian goose who would come up from the lake everyday to get his french fries hand fed from me. I've had worse experiences with roosters.

Edited to say that I have a healthy fear of swans though.
