New Mexico

Hello everyone!

I just now found this thread! I was wondering if anyone has any silkie eggs that they could ship. I have very poor hatch rates with ones that I get that are shipped from far away. I was hoping if I got some from close by maybe I would have a better turnout. BTW... I am sitting in my house while having a new A/C installed. I have been with out for 4 days now and it is HOT! The last 2 days were 110 here. Last night at about 9pm inside was still 92 degrees. I can not wait until these guys finish!!!!

What kind of quail are you raising? I am doing the standard Bobwhites, however some day I would love to try the Gambels Quail as I just LOVE to hear them call in the desert!! I used to live south of Carrizozo and the Gambels would come filing in, one by one to eat bird seed I put out for them in the winter. I adore their calls. And those top knots.

I know I asked this question in the past but can't remember what the answer I got. Does anyone know of a breeder of French Black Copper Marans that is in NM or close by? I have been buying from all over but I can't get a good hatch so I'm hoping for a better hatch from eggs that don't have to travel as far. Thanks

Love my Critters! :

Welcome everybody!

I spoke with Dr. John Wenzel DVM again this week and he has said there has been no interest in breeders becoming certified to test their flocks for NPIP certification. If you would like to express interest in taking the class, please contact him at 575-534-7562. This would be helpful if you plan on selling eggs for hatching or shipping adult birds. Also if you plan to exhibit out of state.

Hey there Tikkijane....boy we are GAGGING on fire smoke! The fires are burning to our north, south, east AND west!! Right now the Donaldson fire is sending up huge plumbs off thick smoke. Yesterday we actually had, for the first time since last September....RAIN!! A down pour for about 1 hour and received about 1 1/2 inches of rain. What a god send. The trees have been dying left and right up here. The deer are so thin you could blow them over. We were hoping that it rained in Hondo, which is south of us on that Donaldson fire, but alas, nothing down there. So hopefully the monsoons are starting.

How is the drought out your way? How are your poultry handling all the heat we have been having?
