they have 2 other pools that are bigger - currently we have 15 ducks, 2 geese, 3 chickens.

i was thinking about your
dilemma with them fighting after you hold them . in my experience most duck fighting is about rank - who is the alpha and so on -
And one thing I do sometimes if a duck or a goose or even a chicken is being naughty (a bully) I pick them up and hold them for a while in front of all the others (and they hate it!), but it’s to show them that I am the alpha.
Perhaps when you put them down, you have asserted your “alpha-ness” and now they feel like they have to fight for position

I didn't even think of how that sounds out of context! 🤣🤣 She's so pretty! That's so many. We can barely get it together with our two! Do they all live together?

no no , each species has its own section of the yard and there’s also a common area that I let them take turns free ranging in.
My chickens used to live with my ducks, but the chickens were bullying the ducks and also I recently got a drake so we wanted to make sure he can’t attempt to mate any chickens. (drake +chicken hen =injury / or death)
the geese just want to murder everyone (except for me -hehe) so they have always had their own space.
