PLEASE do not blame the Breed. I have a 9 year old Pit and she walks around the yard with my cats and rabbits. the ducks are in a pen but she could care less about them. The owners are FULLY responsible for the actions of the dogs. This is so sad for you and your son but if people cannot control their dogs they should not have them. When I lived in PA I did Dog Grooming at my Home and my Pit Bull liked Every dog and child that came to our home. A Little dog did not like her and chased her around the yard. She did not understand. I will be thinking of you and the owners SHOULD be responsible in replacing your chickens. And my neighbors Golden Retreiver killed one of my cats which my pit Bull has never done. It is all in how they are trained.

Depending on where you live..If you live in the country I would use the SSS way..

The OP simply described the dog who killed her birds. Let's don't make this one of those "my pitbull is so lovable" defenses of the breed that the staff has to lock down. This is a story of irresponsible dog owners and the fact is that this is a breed who can do alot of damage to a human child, as is any large dog with strong jaws, and should never be running loose. For that matter, neither should a Jack Russell or a min-pin. Carry on.

I agree, have a 12 gauge loaded with some #2 shot, or even better, 3 in. slugs, so when that lousy dog comes back, blast 'em. He WILL be back, once they know that not only is it a tasty meal but its fun to catch, they aint gonna give up. Ask me how I know. You could also get a donkey, they HATE dogs and'll stomp 'em in the dust pretty quick. There was a BIG dog out here that killed a couple horses, so all us ranchers got a donkey, figurin it couldn't hurt to try... Well, I went outside one mornin and that donkey was hoppin all over that dang dog. Ever since then I've really took a likin to donkeys LOL!

I'm so sorry for your losses.

I had a neighbor that let his 2 dogs run rampid and they attacked anything that wasn't protected. They wuld attack my 10 year old dog everychance they got. I had to go out with her just so she could use the bathroom. I filed a couple of reports on then and they where told to keep the dog restrained. Of course they didn't and I would just call the police again and again on them. I did threaten them that if I caught that dog in our yard again I owuld shoot her myself. They still refused to keep her on a chain. AS soon as we would leave they would let her go. She had even threatened some of our visitors. She was afraid of me. I used a pellet gun to keep her away form our Lab Puppy and ever since she would run when I came out of the house. I didn't have any chickens at the time. I'm sure if I did they owuld not have lasted long.

It was the owners fault she was such a nucense. They would tease her and et her all worked up. Then they breed her and then there where all these little pit bulls all over aour yard.

Call the police, file reports and send them a bill. If they don't pay for it then take them to court. It is the principle of the matter. They need to take responsibility for their pets and themselves for not keeping them restrained.

They finally moved.

I don't think breed should be an issue.....ALL breeds of dogs will kill chickens.

Sorry if I missed it ...but maybe the dog owner wasn't irresponsible? Maybe dogs got out on their own...it happens to even the best dog owners.

If they are good folks they will appologize and offer to help with the replacement of the chickens. If you act hateful (even though this has happend to you) then you will get a negative response back.....Best for everyone to deal with each other in a Godly way

Better results that way.
