My 5 week old hens just spent their first night outside in the coop... and today we introduced a nipple waterer. I had read many posts on here about chickens not figuring it out or not liking it, so I wondered how hard it might be to transition... so far it looks like three of my six have already figured it out (YAY!), I might be brave and take away the other waterer tomorrow.

Has anyone ever had the experience of SOME chickens using the nipple waterer but others not? I swear, it's like the one smartest of my hens figured it out and immediately two others observed and learned from her. Surely they will all catch on, right?

Look how cute they are!

I started mine when they were still in the brooder and they all learned pretty fast. My nipples are mounted on PVC pipe, I had a small set up in the brooder consisting of a half gal. water pitcher with PVC pipe coming out the bottom with an "L" shape and two nipples.. I threw some food in front of it and as they feed on that, they bumped into the nipples and soon learned to drink from them.
