Not done yet, but getting there, slowly.
Today I got nest box lids made. The nest boxes are just not well designed, but I'm overcoming that and getting there. All I need now is some wood on the sides of the lids to cover the gaping holes that will invite evil critters to invade the coop, and I'm good.
I have also been working on the run. The framing is 99% done (just have to tie the upper bit to the coop), and the battle with the hardware cloth is half done. I made a door, and that's now hung and functional. I still have no idea how I am going to do the chicken wire on the roof of the run, but I'll figure it out. (Had to be chicken wire, hardware cloth is just too darn expensive. I also might electrify it someday if it looks like I have to. I have an unused fencer that I'm itching to use).
I have had "help" from my cats. It's so much easier to get things done when you have a feline under your feet.
This is me today, taking a break inside the coop to get some shade. In the last month, I've become 11 pounds lighter and a few shades darker from all the outside work.
Left to do:
Finish putting hardware cloth on run.
Get chicken wire on top of the run.
Add screening to cover gap under roof.
Wire mesh in vents.
Get the electric hooked up.
Install the light (the fan is already up)
Finish the nest box lids.
Build steps up to people door.
Weather prediction later this week: Mid 90's. Ouch.
