You are way above average in your care, construction, and CASH! We on the other hand, have spent a boatload and are still wingin' it. Precision is just not in our blood, but paint covers a multitude of errors.
I just gaped in awe when I saw those walls! Tres cool, my man. My compliments to your wife too!
Middle Sections Pre-Assembly. We pre-built these sections for all the walls. Now we are assembling them. The horizontal pieces are each 42", three of those. The window/vent frame has two 10" pieces. The two long pieces are 63.5". We squared these up and screwed two screws per board. The screws are 3.5" x 10 tan Grip-Rite High Performance Exterior Screws with a T-25 star drive. We pre-drilled each hole with a 1/8" bit to avoid splitting.
Middle Sections Assembled. We screwed one 3.5" screw in through the horizontal boards. Then we used another four 2.5" screws of the same variety spread out evenly to connect the two sections.
Complete Wall Frame Pre-Assembly. The two end studs are 81". The top and bottom plates are 48" on the outside and about 45" on the inside, the cut is mitered to 22.5 degrees.
Attached Bottom Plate. We marked the middle of each of the middle studs and marked 15" in from each edge of the 45" side. This gives us 15" centers. We then lined these up and squared them with the bottom plate. Then we screwed in two 3.5" screws. We repeated this for the 81" studs.
Side Stud Assembled. We put one 3.5" screw in to the three horizontal studs on both sides.
Top Plate Assembled. We squared up and screwed in two 3.5" screws for each 81" stud on the sides.
Eight Wall Frames Complete. Here's the stack of all eight wall frames for the gazebo style chicken coop. Thirty two 3.5" screws and four 2.5" screws were used for each wall frame section. We are almost through our second 5lb box of 3.5" screws.
Looking pretty darn good to me. The missus and I make a great team when we are cooperating on projects like this. She is a gold-plated star! (to quote the Vobes). Weather forecast shows Wednesday and Thursday to be rain free. We need to get the vinyl flooring installed, then we can get these frames in place. We have metal 'grip plates' that we are going to hammer in underneath and on top of each section to join it to its neighbour, and also metal 'angle bracket' to connect top and bottom end studs. These I am going to bend with pliers to the correct angle and then screw in. I want this to be as sturdy as possible, able to withstand the wind we get around here. A good day's work indeed!
Vinyl Flooring Installed. Yesterday we cut to rough size the vinyl flooring and glued it in place. Then this morning I cut it to the correct size.
Half Way Framed. Half of the walls are up at this point. Pretty quick progress. The frames are plumbed and then screwed at the bottom. We get them fully plumb by adjusting the tops and hammering a spiky metal plate across the join at the corners.
Wall Framing Complete. All eight walls are in place. Took just over two hours to complete. We are going to add extra metal brackets to join the corners and make it even stronger. Man this thing is big!
Taking a break now. Rain is in the forecast, so we'll be covering it all up before then. We should be able to get the plywood up on the walls soon though.
Lookin good! I'm always so jealous of people who can make things "straight" and "plumb", lol...my coop (nearly done now) is neither straight nor plumb anywhere!
Wow- Seriously an awesome coop!!! How many chickens are you going to house in that?? I wonder if I can pull off building a miniature version of that!! It is beautiful
