Hello from North Carolina. Here’s to answering the questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens and I will be getting half my chicks on 7/11/25 and the other half on 7/14/25.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I will be getting 12 female chicks and 1 rooster chick, a bakers dozen
(3) What breeds do you have? The rooster and 3 hens are Bielefelder, 3 hens are Columbian Wyandotte, 2 hens are Easter eggers, 2 hens are australorps, and the last 2 are buff Orpingtons
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I am really excited to have them in the yard pecking around eating bugs, having fresh eggs, having the kids help take care of them and see where food comes from.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I love to garden and have indoor plants. I love reading. I love to bake and would love to learn how to make breakfast pastries.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have 3 children, my oldest being 10 years old and he has Autism, an 8 year old and a 16 month old. I work telemedicine and work from home.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I did a google search as I’m not on social media and was looking for a community of backyard chickens keepers to learn from. With the chicks being here in a week, after reviewing YouTube and reading books, I thought it would be good to have people who are doing this to ask questions with.
