Okay hopefully it will make sense how I explain it:
So you get a washer and tie it to the end of about a foot of string. Now that you have your sophisticated devise ready, you must first test it to see what works for YOU. The washer on the string will move a certain way for a male or a female animal or person. Your first experiment is to figure out which way it moves for a male and which way it moves for a female. To do this you need an animal or person of each sex. Hold the washer on the string over the critter or person and hold it still then let go of it. Watch it for a bit and it will start to move a certain way. It will either go from side to side or around in a circular motion. A male animal or person will read as the washer going one way, and then a female animal or person will read as it going the completely other way. So for example my testing told me that for ME, something that is a male will cause the washer to move around in a circle but something that is female will cause it to move back and forth. This is only what works for me. My boyfriend tested it and found that the same was true for when he used the washer and the string but you have to test first on things you know the gender of just to be certain.
Then once you have tested with known gender animals or people (it does work on people I have tested it on 4 people myself included) you can then test animals you don't know the gender of. For my peachick I picked him up and held him in one hand and held the washer on a string over his back. Holding the animal does not seem to mess up the results.
I hope that all made sense!
