Hi y'all! I'm a single mom to a Senior boy. He'll be graduating May 24th. Supposedly going to college or he'll be finding a new place to live. And a daughter that has been doing dual enrollment her entire highschool career and she's a junior. I'm just trying to convince her she's not grown.

My boyfriend of 2 1/2 years is a wounded warrior. He broke his back in Desert Storm after serving 16 years in the Air Force as an airplane engineer. He actually bought me the chicks as a project. He loves eggs and eats them every single day.

So, now I have a dozen chicks to raise, and I love them to pieces. They are the cutest things ever. Even more cute than my white cat Daisy. Who I love to death. She helped me recover when I lost my greyhound last October. She stays at my house with our 2 other cats. And the chix are at Rick's. We just moved them to a larger "brooder". We are using a large kennel. They are about 2 weeks old now. We have a mix. I wanted Isa Browns the most. Then Rick picked out a bunch more. I know there's 4 New Hampshire Reds. The other 4 I'm not sure about, much less what their sex is. I find it so relaxing just to watch them. 15232915651651198323664.jpg 15232916649061255739670.jpg

I also love to garden. I find it very relaxing as well. I am relatively new to it. I've had mostly flowers in pots for the past 2 years and a few veggies. But this year's I'm trying to start everything from seeds and I want a raised bed, but Rick is busy with lots of other projects. And I don't think I can afford to buy them. My seeds are doing great!

I'm so glad I found a community to help with this new venture!

Hello and :welcome. Congratulations on getting your chicks. There's plenty of helpful, knowledgable members here so I'm sure you'll find this site a useful resource.

The chick in the second pic is looking like a roo; he has a good size comb for only a few days old :thumbsup

Welcome to Backyard Chickens Melanie nice to have you join us

G'Day from down under Melanie :frowWelcome and Congratulations! :clap

Great intro .. thank you for sharing!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

Beautiful babies! If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of them and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
