New pen for the chicks

I'd never thought I'd ever have chickens. These Lil girls are so funny to watch. They just crack me up, running and scratching around. They lay all over the place sleeping like they have been up all night drinking. There Lil necks all stretched out and feet sticking out lol

I never knew until a year ago. When I read a book that had a character with chickens. Suddenly it was like WHOOOSH, a year gone by and we’re setting up the brooder and driving off to get our babes!

They are SO hilarious, I agree! Get a mirror and you’ll be doubled over laughing. Mine have this game where I dangle a little worm and then one will snatch it and run off... it starts a full on keep away game with stealing and a whole lot of loud complaining! I love just watching them sleep too! And sometimes one will wake up with a jolt and they’ll all start running around... goofballs!

How old were they when you fed them worms? Earth worm, meal worms??

It was just today, they are about 8-9 days old. I found a couple small earth worms, washed them off and offered one to see if they liked it. They did!

I have ordered 10 Dominique pullets that are supposed to ship next month. I have a large tote as a brood pen and in the process of building 8 x 16 chicken tractor on skids with a raised 4 x 8 coop for them to grow into.

I've never seen a dimmer extension cord, but that would work awesome. I'll check it out

They are awesome, never screw around with raising/lowering light again!
They should be available at most hardware or big box stores.

I just put in a branch I cleaned off from outside. It’s about an inch off the ground
