A 70 Gallon? Jeesh you could fit a lot of stuff in there. As far as first reptiles go, I'd say leopard geckos, cornsnakes, bearded dragon, or a crested gecko probably.
I'd love a bearded dragon but I didn't think they could fit in there for their whole life
Depending on the floor plan, a Bearded Dragon could live its whole life in a 70 gallon very happily. The only thing is when starting out with a baby, of most species, they need a smaller tank to start off in. In a 70 gallon, a baby Beardie would never be able to find its food, same with anything else. If you get a 70, awesome, but I'd also get a smaller one to start the animal off in. Cresties, Leopard Geckos and Beardies are all supposed to be great starter lizards. I've had all 3 and they were great. (Well, I JUST got the crested gecko, but its been great so far!) The Leo was a butt, but we got him as an adult and he hadnt been handled like he should have been. There are good starter snakes out there as well, but if your dad wont let you get one then there is no point in discussing them. Believe me, I know the whole parents vs. snake deal. I asked for most of my life to get a snake and just got my first one a couple years ago. Here I am with #7, and I doubt Im stopping now! lol
