Coop & Run behind it

This forum is the greatest! Just knowing you people are here for me, and would help me if you lived close enough is just about bringing tears to my eyes!

Boy, I've never gone back and forth so much on anything in my life! I thought I'd done my research, and looked at dozens of coops online, but come to find out the dimensions are all wrong for what I need! By Bob, you just screwed things up for me AGAIN! Jk, of course. At least now I know that getting just two might not be a good idea. No chance of hawks getting my babies, as the run will be completely enclosed, and the top will not be open. But as for egg binding, well, I guess that could happen too. Lily, by the way, is one lovely girl! I wouldn't want to have one lonely girl, and try to replace the one I lost, and have them fight. Chickens are more complicated than us women!

Put it this way--hubby and I are no good whatsoever in building anything. I mean, we have trouble putting parts in the right way when going from instructions! By Bob, your coop is just adorable, and I love what you've done with it!

Seems no matter which way I turn, there's another roadblock. As far as not taking the coop out of the box, it's not here yet. Will be here Monday. I'm undecided about that too. I'm going to throw something out there that will probably cause a huge uproar, but here goes. What is wrong with using the coop I'm getting AND a large dog crate? I'm not talking the wire kind, but the plastic kind. Not having measured it, I'd say it's about 2 feet wide and 4 feet long. If only two birds could fit in the coop I'm getting, could the third bird go into the crate at night? I know how that must sound, but remember I'm totally new to chickens. What do people who have chickens in the house do? They surely don't have a coop, and I hear of chickens sleeping on the bed at night, and there aren't any coops in nature, so if I bedded a dog crate down with hay, couldn't the chickens decide for themselves who wants the coop and who wants the crate? Any other coop I get at this point is going to be more expensive than the one I'm getting, and from what I've seen, the prefabs are ALL too small. Most of them aren't more than 2x3, and if I were to get something big enough, it would cost a fortune. Working on a budget here, so since we don't build, what is a person to do?
