New Problem, 4-6 month old EE Cockerel Gurgling, Can't Stand

Update on Flynt. Sadly, he just passed away moments ago. He was doing very well when my fiance and I got home, eating and drinking and even managing to balance well on his legs. The fiance was watching TV and the roo started to bed down for the night. Then suddenly the rooster just sort of keeled over and passed. There was no warning at all.

This is unfortunate and very upsetting because he was my favorite little roo, but I'm glad the poor guy isn't going to suffer anymore.

Really sorry to hear that you've lost your Flynt ... was hopin' he'd respond better to treatment, but some things work too quickly, or even do great harm internally before symptoms present themselves. You work through this as you see fit, but be sure 'n go back a few posts as your reminder, and then you continue forward, tending the needs of your flock: They're resilient, and ever changing, as the individual birds are both fragile and temporary, by their very design ... be like the flock, and not the individual bird for too long, so you can continue to adore keepin' chickens ~'-)

I too am so very sorry that Flynt did not make it - he was lucky to have such a great life with you.

He was comfortable, warm, well fed, watered and in your home too - not many chickens get that much love and attention.

Hello,

I am having a problem w/a 6 month old roo who has injured one leg which is making it hard for him to get around--I found your thread when I was searching for help.

First, I wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. My husband and I are new to chickens, too, since we just started our little flock of 6 in July. We lost a pullet earlier in October to a fungal infection in her lungs, but we would never have known that--and would never have known that our others were safe--without taking the body for a necropsy. In Virginia, it was a minimal fee, and it gave us the peace of mind to know that our others were not in danger of perishing from the same thing. I'm sure by now it's too late for you to take this step, but I wanted to tell you about it should you find yourself in a similar situation in the future. Our pullet had those gurgling sounds, too, so I know what you were going through.

I'm glad you found help and support here. As I learned with our last experience, there are no vets that I can even find who will look at a chicken in my area, so this forum is my only hope for help. I'm glad folks care so much about the bigger network of chicken lovers.

Best of luck in the future.

Pam
