See update for more info...

My 9ish month old sex-link, who is my leader of the flock, is just not right. Yesterday afternoon she was lethargic and had a wee bit of poop stuck under her vent. Today she didn't leave the henhouse, has been lethargic, has even more poop stuck to the feathers around her vent.

Upon using the search feature on google, I found BYC!!! This is my new favourite site, might I throw in.

So... I found info on the crop and it being full. Well, Betty's crop is empty. I felt around and there seems to be some cracked corn? in it? But then again, I don't know if that is normal.

I also felt around her vent for the possibility of a stuck egg and didn't feel anything externally. I did the ever lovely vaseline on a glove trick and didn't feel anything in there (then again, I'm not sure what I should be really feeling in there). I got my finger in until it got tight so I assumed that meant stop

Okay... so... I put her in isolation. Gave her some water with apple cider vinegar in it because it can't hurt anything.

Does anyone have any ideas on what's wrong? I can take a picture of her chicken tushy if that may help. Or an idea on what I can do to help my poor girl?

***UPDATE***
I still have Betty in isolation. I can see the poop that she has made. Some of her poops are very very red (i'm assuming blood mixed in). Some of her poops are partially normal coloured with red smears in it. I don't know what is wrong with her??? Please, any information or ideas!!!! Thanks so much!!

Thanks my new best friends!!!

well two things on this problem

She can have worms
of which I would suggest you pu her back with the hens
and worm them all for round worms
wazine is good
and don't become alarmed at the words don't use on hens laying
just don't eat the eggs for the day of water with medicine for worming
and for 10 days after worming

then if the hen is still lethrgic
I would get some amproylium and treat all of the hens for adult coccidiosis
these two things do affect hens that can be going into adult egg laying
you won't be able to eat eggs for 10 days after going of coccidiosis meds and they will be on the meds for 7 days

if she goes ahead and lays an egg she won't be egg bound
Now then has she laid eggs before?

I then would start the
wet mash natural probiotic
1 gallon of dry crumbles
2 gallon of milk sweet, sour, buttermilk
1 cup of yoguart non flavored

mix only what ant it takes to make 3 tbsp per chicken being treated
and what they will clean up in 20-30 minutes
then do this twice a day for the week and then once a week for ever

I did the dewormer treatment 7 days ago in the water. Could this still be a problem with worms?

As far as her laying, she has been a great layer for a few months. She usually lays 4-5 eggs a week, so a day in between isn't a surprise.

Out of curiosity, what does the wet mash natural probiotic do?

Do a BYC search for coccidiosis and see if the info matches what's happening with your girl.

I hope things will turn out okay
