The craziest thing happened today. On Thursday I picked up a lab mix to keep my German Shepherd company while they take on the wild outdoors together. He listens(Soemwhat) and I love him dearly actually cause he isn’t that difficult to train. The owner had him in bad conditions so I’m sure he is much happier in his current condition,as he gets to run and play outdoors all day then be stuck in a cage all the time.Anywho,Ironically my mom was driving home and what do know, she comes home and tells me to look in the back, all I see is a big fluff ball.He is a Great Pyrenees. We we’re legit wanting one of these as they usually are for sale for a couple hundreds,Well we got one for free.He isn’t in good condition and I don’t think he was cared for right or just ran away. When he came here it was obvious he rolled in something dead(no biggie,my dogs do that every other month). He has a TON of stick tights and ticks,I am hopes he was abandoned and his actual owner didn’t just let him live like this. His ears were filled with ticks and he has a wound that looks as if he was actually shot, but it could be from anything.I have given him a bath while doing so noticed when my hands raise at him as I’m going to go pet him he flinched, this puppy I think has been abused unfortunately .

Anywhoe after bathing him and removing what I could of the stick tights,I put a leash on him, what a mistake. He is stubborn,it was like throwing a collar on an untamed horse. When he doesn’t wanna go somewhere he just sits there,I dragged him and he wouldn’t budge. He is a heavy breed dog and is only maybe four months old maybe younger. He obviously is bigger the My thirteen week old lab puppy. So,I had to get my mom outside to fight with him,he goes where he wants to go when he wants to go.It was actually a shocker as the lab didn’t need but a few reminders and now goes in my directions only, but he is so well behaved he is off leash.

The second time I took the Great Pyreens (aka Sammy) out, things went smoother until he decided he wanted to exploring towards the street,It redirected him and that’s usually when he just decided to throw his weight around then he will just sit there. At this point we have a personal understanding,I won’t do what he wants and he won’t do what I wants,so we just sit there until I decided to literally carry him all the way back down to the house. Its ridiculous right? He is nearly the size of my female German Shepherd and I’m caring him as if he was a TEN POUND Puppy.I am definitely a guy who need to work on their patience levels as well as I get irrated easily, escpecially when my animals don’t behave,I just wanna bust.I am taking it lightly as I have no idea what his past was like, and he is only been her for a few hours,I just got him toe at about an hour and half ago as he isn’t nearly as treat motivated as my lab is,or any dog.I want him leashed trained right now because I don’t have the trust to let him off leash.I have tried the collar tugging method and “Overpowering” him,but it didn’t work.Tomorrow I’ll see if he is more good motivated and maybe even try him and the leash again and maybe his confidence levels will build up and he will trail behind me and my other two pups.In the meantime can I get soem tips?

Is he "food" motivated? You should read up on the breed, that would help you understand his traits. From what I know of the breed, they're more a "protector" of livestock then pet. You want him trained NOW but that's not going to work ... He will need patience (abuse) and understanding. If it's too much for you, perhaps rehoming him would save you on aggravation & sanity. Best wishes ...

Okay, first of all, buy ’burst’ you don't mean hit him, right?

Secondly, Sammy obviously does not see you as his alpha.
Try walking through any entrance or exit before him; make him heel. But, you need to be able to get him to walk on a leash first, so here’s how:
Teach him to heel, as he may not have ever walked on a leash, and he may not understand what you’re asking him to do. Then, work on distractions, as you know.

You need to earn his trust if he was abused. Gently reach out to him, making it very obvious what you’re about to do, and gently pet him. Spend time just sitting around with him, so he learns you’re not a threat. Give him plenty of attention, but don't smother him. He doesn't know you too well, so you shouldn't smother him too much, as he could take it as a threat.
Give him treats, and gently talk to him.

Do you think the previous owners abused and neglected him? If so, report them ASAP; that’s the first thing I’d do.

As someone else said if he's too much, you might need to rehome him. They are working dogs, after all. If you have livestock, you could teach him to herd, or something of the sort. I agree you should read up on his breed.

If you need anything else about this topic, just ask.

He's unwell, and has been mismanaged (at least!) and brand new to you. And he's not a very trainable retriever!
Consider a rescue group, or talk to your veterinarian about rehoming him, or good trainers. You have one puppy already! One at a time is enough; been there, done that.
Don't have too high expectations too soon, but don't set yourself up for failures either. He's a project, and maybe not the project you want or need now.

I am a treat trainer. Good behaviour gets a tiny treat every time to lock the good responses in.

Lots of "good boy" and gentle treatment.

No dragging him around by the collar. If he was abused that may be a negative feeling.

I agree that he may not be a good fit in your home. He may fit perfectly elsewhere.

No I would neevr hit him or any of my animals, escpecially considering what he possibly has been though,I don’t get mad I get irrated. Will read up on breed, thanks guys.

We have poultry and have been wandering about goats and Have predators,so yes I am willingly to work with him as I have all summer and plan on doing online schooling.
He doesn’t flinch and is actually coming when I call him,he definitely is learning from my lab.I will be working on names and basic commands for now as my dog doesn’t need to learn play dead or any other silly things people teach theirs, just come, stop, and sit pretty much is what they know, and get it,and most of their natural understanding of what should be in the yard kicks in and have not had any predators issue since getting dogs,an did not even train them to become guards, they practically teach and train one another.

Wait a minute...did you say you only had him for a few HOURS but he's stubborn? That is so unfair. He doesn't know you or where you're taking him. Being scared, especially given his unknown past, is totally understandable. Please, be patient and gentle with him. If you don't have the patience, please, please rehome him. Since he's a purebred, there are usually breed-specific dog rescues and I am sure they will be able to provide the mental and physical therapy he may need to become a good canine citizen.
