New puppy new training help

Yes,we will be looking out for his original owners because he could have always ran away, read that they are prone to exploring.

I wasn’t saying he was beaten I was saying it was a possibility.

But not in compete denile because I did yell stop at him and flinched, but that could just be his nerves.

Thanks again for the tips, have not heard from owners nor seen signs up for him but will definitely keep an eye out.

He is growing us and already doing his duty,he was barking last night along with my German Shepherd. He is getting better at walking on a leash and am using one of the posters advice on using treats.I stick the treats at his nose and tell him to come Sam,he comes and is awarded with a lice of beggin strips. When I have to care for the chickens I hook me up on chain leash and that away he can fight be bicker with the tree who eats tons more then him,dog had a ton of fight him even with the tree but I think with the over powering of the tree it is helping knock his pride down and helping me train him easier.

Some people buy that breed of dog because they are so cute as puppies(and they are) and when they get bigger and all those LGD traits show up(stubbornness, size, etc). I doubt it was abused, probably just abandoned. Good luck with it. If you plan on keeping it with livestock of any kind you should get it with them ASAP

Yes,never thought about people thinking about more of looks rather then temperament and probably couldn’t handle it.

As everyone has told me,even though he may be the most difficult right now, good training and hard work pays off so I will be working with him.

We’re makin progress.Almost had an entirely successful walk today on leash,I actually let him off to follow me inside and he stuck through with it.He has learned how to sit as well.

So many people get that 'cute puppy' and have no idea what it's needs will be, it's size, behaviors, or anything. Then after it's past the 'cute' phase, and lumbering (or zipping) around, totally untrained, they dump it.
Rant over, for now.

Update,it’s been a few days and still have not heard anything from anybody about original owners and haven’t seen searches or anything.

Anywho,we have been training him.He can almost successfully walk entirely on a leash,on occasion when he gets lazy he tries to sit down but I just tug and call is name and he comes. We came such a long way.He is able to understand get out,no,sit and understands come but just won’t listen to you,and he might understand his name but it’s still a working progress.

I actually let him off his leash a few times and he follows us,but that nose gets him in trouble as he has a ton of different things he smells and wanna look for. Will
Be keeping on a leash just to pretty much train him form chasing the chickens and any other things.

Update-It’s been awhile.Sammy is fitting in great. He is our dog now.Unfoirtently his play mate Max passed due to parvo. We got his shots, and to be truthful,I think he gave it to Max.Anywho,he is happy and healthy.Comes running to his name, poops outside (Working on the pee),Comes And follows my Herman Shepherd around. He actually ran into the he woods and came back!He still gets locked up on leash tide because He stays outside a lot more now.Every so often I let him off his leash.I am not getting that protective Pyrénées out of him yet but assuming it should set when he is more grown. He sits, and we’re working on stay.
