If you don't have anything in the middle of the cage the wire will sag way down. Trust me I did this before.

When you have a cross piece use a 1x1 or 2x2 turned on a corner so that the poop slides off the sides of it on the slant. it works for my rabbit hutches.

I use a round metal bar. It keeps the poop off and the wire up.

Yes, but when my Quail were in those hutches for a bit it didn't stick then either.

Trust me rabbit poo sticks.
