New quail hatchling issue....

Thank you. It's one of those things you learn to expect when you raise poultry. Not all chicks make it no matter what you do to try and help them. Didn't tell the kids about it. They get so sad when something like this happens. I once had a chick hatch that had all its internal organs in a sac outside its body. We culled of course but it was definitely something you don't see everyday. That was when I first got into chickens. Feels like forever ago. Seeing this little guy kind of reminded me of it.

Very much so! And I can tell a huge difference between the birds I have hatched and ones that came from a -hatchery. Their production, personality, colors, health is all better than hatchery chicks. And I know what they are fed versus store bought eggs/meat. You are completely right about it!

This is Fancy! And the Jubilee I just added a week ago is Sassy!

Sadly I had to cull the little chicky last night. I had took off the shoe and somehow think it made it worse or I pinched the nerves bc it would hardly stand or put pressure on that leg. I noticed it choking and coughing up fluid so decided it was better not to let the poor little guy suffer. I feel like the bator dive mixed with a few days of high humidity (from all the rain we've had here recently) may have caused some things to happen internally. Like with the other that had the yolk sac unabsorbed. It's sad but it's what I felt was best for the bird. I can't thank you enough for helping through this process.

I am so sorry. :hugs Things don't always go as planned with hatches. Improper humidity definitely plays havoc on developing embryos. I am super sorry . :hugs
