Hi. Just wanted to introduce myself and our new quail hens

I’m Catherine and we live in Gloucester in the Sputh West of England. We’ve had 3 chickens before but since moving house our garden’s too small for chickens so we’ve recently got some quail.

I’ve done a fair bit of resrarch but wanted your opinions please on our ‘coop’, it’s just an old rabbit hutch (6’ x 2’). I’ve put their food and water in the house area (2’x2’) and I’ve made a door so they can be locked in at nighttimes.

I’ve put a few branches in the run area and plant pots but wondered if you have any other ideas to keep it interesting for them? Or would they rather less in there so they have more space to run around?

They’re on aubiouse bedding with straw and hay too. Oh and I’m going to put a little sand bath in there for them ASAP.

Any suggestions gratefully received! Thanks

Nice looking coop, I think you have most of the requirements for your quail to be happy.

Thanks for joining our community! :celebrate

Welcome back to BYC.
:yesss: We are glad you joined this flock!
Jump right in and make yourself at home.
It looks great so far. You could add a few fake greenery pieces to give them a place to hide.

Hello Catherine abd welcome to BYC! :frow

I love how you are giving them a more natural setting! Quail like brush and in the wild they would linger all day under bushes and hedgerows. So you might remove some of the logs and put in something with foliage on it. You can use real branches with leaves but they will need to be replaced often or use fake foliage. I used fake Christmas trees in my aviaries and Rabbit hutches. (Pieces of fake trees in the hutches.) The quail will love to mill around underneath the branches so prop them up from the corners. Foliage also keeps the birds from flushing up into the ceiling, which can hurt or kill them.

Great job and good luck with your quail! :)
