This is what I have, and so far so good.

Made it myself with 1/2" hardware cloth and crimper rings. The base is actually from the ducting/venting dept at Home Depot... two of them makes a rectangular duct-vent.

Of course, this won't be used for any young-uns.

My ex told me that quail like Buttons and Cortunix should not get high protein feed, layer would be healthier for them. Wild type quail like Bobs, Mountains, Harlequins etc need the high protein food.
He has been breeding almost any available quail type under the sun for the past couple of years. I just have buttons, cortunix and Bobs. The high protein feed makes the buttons and cortunix a lot more agressive.

That's interesting.
I was feeding all my Buttons game bird (26%) feed and having a terrible problem with them fighting and feather pulling and just overly-agressive birds (females and males, I thought it was just their nature).
I changed their diet to 16% commercial feed and supplement them with greens, ground sunflower and other seeds, and boiled egg.
They are doing so much better.
