Hello everyone, Thank you for opening this post, but, I have had five hens for a year and a half (They are large in size but not too big), never had a rooster around them, until now. I just recently brought home a 9 month old Black Bantam Roo Roo (Decently sized but still small), I put him in the pen with the girls and observed, everything went silent until the boss hen pecked him in the back and he went running into the corner, afterwards, all the hens started picking on him, like a bunch of bullies ganging up on a little kid, in worries that he would get hurt I separated the coop and the run so they could have their space away from each other, he seems comfortable in his environment but my hens are all a little stressed, what should I do??? Thank you so much for your help btw. :)

I just got an 8 month old rooster, I wanted to name him Lester because I wanted eggs to get fertile, but the hens would beat him up so I named him McGuyver because he tried to hide. He is an EE. I have had him for 2 weeks he is finally fertilizing eggs and not being shy. He has not crowed yet though.

They need more time to get to know each other. Usually you seperate the coop and run and keep them seperate but so they can get used to each other for a few weeks.
I hate to ask but did you quarantine him for about a month before putting him with your girls?
What do you mean quarantine him?

I had a similar situation with introducing a rooster into an already established flock of hens. First the roo was in a separate pen, and then I put the bully hen in there while he and the rest of the flock got along fine. The boss hen eventually stepped down from her position (reluctantly). Sometimes it just takes a while for them to sort their pecking order out again.

I am just so worried because I can't really find the boss hen, when one pecks him, all start to follow, I just want to open up the whole coop and hope they get along without finding him injured one day because its almost like they are towering over him.

Quarantine, keep him far away from your flock as possible, each hands, changes shoes between flocks. For about a month
The person I brought home from limed their ground every 2 weeks and well kept their chickens so I am assuming he is alright, no signs of any sickness so far
