New run - grass, wood chips question

Either way, the grass will be destroyed - so why not just put the wood chips in now?

So that the chickens can eat the grass, I presume.

I love the rich color and flavor that egg yolks have when the chickens have access to plenty of greens so I won't cover up the grass in my new coop until I need to. :)

They mentioned the chickens are only 7weeks old = no eggs before that grass is a goner. My chickens just seem MUCH happier digging through mulch than they do with grass

Yep, could be any of those 3 :D
I'd be ready, and when it starts getting muddy, start adding the wood chips.
What kind of chips do you have?
I let em eat the grass down first for no other reason than the chooks seem to enjoy it and it dont hurt anything.

I don't have any yet ... my plan is to reach out to some tree services and see what I can get my hands on. My township used to have free mulch pick up from when they go around and do branch pickup .... but I'm not sure of the status of that this year. If I need something in a hurry, I might investigate that further. I don't have a truck, so it would be a hassle I'd rather avoid.

So, reason #1 for why to not put it down now ... I don't have any yet. Reason #2 is that if they like they grass they may as well get to enjoy it before I kill it off.

Keep in mind a big pile from a wood chip delivery is like 15-20 yards of material
Yes. It's easy to say "use these kind of chips",
but many do not have the space to store them.
This is 2 loads from local DPW.
