New Sebbies! We're so excited! new question- pg 2

So far, so good. They come to the pen door to talk to us, let us in the pen and sort of let us pet them....they're using their pool and goose house (a little bit for the house) but I don't see much sign of eating much food. I've got layer pellets for them in a feed trough (is the trough the problem? should I use a big bowl?) I put out rinsed off veggie mix that we didn't eat all of (carrots, green beans, corn and peas.) I rinsed it really well so there wasn't any salt or butter on it. I'll buy fresh peas for them tomorrow. What else makes a good goose treat? and is it normal for newly re-homed geese to not eat much? My chickens have got to be laughing at them for leaving food in their dish!

Her neck is looking good and dry...no sign of new trauma at all.

They never seemed to eat as much as I expected them to so I wouldn't worry about them not eating. They liked to nibble on hay and of course grass. They didn't seem to care if the grass was still brown, they would pick at it anyway. I would also give them a little scratch out of my hands with gloves on

I had to squat down to their level to get them to eat out of my hands at first. They didn't seem to like much of anything else. When ever I went in the pen with them I would give him a rub on his back at the base of his neck where it is nice a fluffy, he seemed to like that. She liked to spend 1/2 the day hanging out in her nest in the dog house. I don't know if I ever saw him go in there. She let the silkie roosters hang out in there with her though.

They're doing great still...her scab was partially pulled back yesterday and there was a smaller raw area under it. I put neosporin on it and vetwrap over that. (and a layer of first aid tape over that too.) She was hilarious to watch...trying to shake it off. She's acting fine with it on today and I'll leave it on for another day to give that area a chance to dry up without him bothering it at all. They let us walk right in and pet them, he honks and sometimes hisses, but stops right after we get in the pen. They like to have their necks rubbed/scratched. I can tell you spent lots of time with them, justmeandtheflock! Thanks!

I've got a question for anyone who has ever bought a goose who was already laying eggs. Sadie laid an egg the day before I got her, and that was a week ago tomorrow. (Saturday being the day I picked them up.) About how long before she lays an egg again? I am so curious to see how big a goose egg is (the real goose eggs, not the kind my kids or I have gotten on our heads!) If anyone has any idea, I'd love to hear.
Thanks!
Lisa

Since she was moved she probably wont lay for quite a while... When we moved our geese to another pen during breeding season and egg laying season; fertilty and eggs were lost. We didn't have eggs till next year.

don't geese mate for life? Are these geese different? are the males aways one color and the females one color? These are my new favorites.

They're my favorite too- and I wanted some last year. Now I'm so glad I have these ones. They're so good and he really is a gentleman protecting his lady...excpet when he's ahem...roughing her up. I haven't seen any of that yet though.

He always lets us know we've got to pet him first, and then if we're lucky we can pet her. So cute!

Sadie has laid 3 eggs in the last 4 days! Wow what a gal! Those eggs are so heavy and huge I think. (I've never held a goose egg though, so what do I know?) I'm selling them for now, and later will let her try to hatch some if she wants!
If anyone knows where hattricksilkies's Sebbies are from originally, I'd love to know. They are gorgeous!
