New: Second Summer Raising Chickens

Yes, that's accurate, but in all of my hatching, I have never once had that happen nor heard of it happening. I candle before I put them in lockdown, so at that point, the eggs going into lockdown are all viable. It would take more than a few days for it to rot to the point of explosion.
I mean I don't think it has to explode for bacteria to start growing on/from the bad egg. But yes I candle after day 3 I put them in to see if the embryo is developing, then again about a week later to see if they are still developing, I also check before lock down but again I have Easter Eggers... The olive eggs are hard to candle, so sometimes I can't tell with those.

Hi guys nice to meet ya. Happy to join the forum to gain more knowledge that will help me with my chicken farming.

I first bought EE the winter before last they started laying last summer so I started incubating some eggs. I have hatched two batches. My first batch are going on 4 months old and me second batch is several weeks old.

So, I also bought a bigger incubator that will hold 50 eggs. I had 30 In there but so far only 2 from day (5-9) have hatched, the other 4 haven't pipped and I'm on day 21 and they are not moving inside :(. Guess that's why they say don't count your chickens before they hatch. Hopefully I get most of my remaining 24!!!

The birds I have now are all mixed with several breeds. I hope to raise some pure blood stock too.
Welcome. You are really good at chicken hatching math.
