I like to give my A&Ms meal worms about once a week and have noticed a behavior that is comical. The roos will not eat the worms, they pick them up and start to giggle until one of the hens comes and takes it out of their beak. I thought I had one roo and five hens until I started to notice a bald " hen " doing the giggle and giving of the worm. If hens don't normally give up the meal worm could I use this as a decent way of sexing them without violating them ( vent sexing )? Just a thought. Let me know what ya think, thanks, Steve.

That Is Certainly Roo Behavior... Just Couldnt Say For Sure If It Works 100% Of The Time?? Also Maybe A Tad Hard For Many Newbees To Pick Up Right Away, But Is A Definate Contender

That's what goes on in my Coturnix pens...it's so cute. The males bring the mealworms to the hens (some are pigs) but the whole room makes an odd sound of chorking. Tuesdays and Sundays here are very calming

So...there is a 3rd option for sexing non color sex able coturnix? Vent sexing, beer sexing and..........Meal worm sexing?

I never poopoo something I have never tried before

So...how accurate is this "Meal Worm" sexing?

I have started looking up their shirts....rubbing for foam and all that.

Gosh darn it! I need me some meal worms! I'll try anything twice, maybe more if I have had enough

Remodeled the quail pen this morning, due to thinking I had a hen crow.... Tried the meal worm test and two would pick up worms and giggle until another confirmed hen took the worm. Then like lightning, they would mount the hen. SOOOOOO I divided the pen and now each roo has a couple girls all to himself. As soon as the girls hit the floor with the roos it was like some bad quail porn, just without the cheesy music. After watching this it made me wonder if having a bad roo/hen ratio actually affected the amount that they would breed.
