New Silkie Breeder

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost!

I am sorry to hear that you were decieved on your first round of ordering eggs. Was it an accidental mistake? Breeding silkies is a very interesting project. They may acquire physical genetics in the future.
:highfive: Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

I also got excited about haychhat silkies a while back. Here in the systat, we do recognize the hardship of shipped eggs..the actual shipping methods, and, hoping you get what you ordered. It took time, but I found some wonderful folks with great colors that I wanted. Here are a few photos...View attachment 1631839 View attachment 1631845 I love the whites and splash. View attachment 1631850 . WELCOME!!
Your Silkies are gorgeous! Love the colors. We are quite limited to the colors we have here in New Zealand. The only colors recognized are white, black, blue, splash, partridge & buff. I know of one breeder working on Cuckoo, but I don't know anyone actually working on grey, which I was hoping to work with. So it was a bit of a blow hatching out the wrong colors ... & half of them Sizzles. The seller of the eggs was very apologetic & wanted to send out the correct colors, & I will probably take her up on that at some point.

Thank you for your welcome. I believe it was a genuine mistake, & the seller was most apologetic, offering to send out 6 of the correct colors. How she managed to pop in 3 Sizzles was just as much of a shock as all the wrong colors, & to get single combs instead of walnut combs, just capped it all off. However, I love each one of them, & I would keep every one of them, but sadly, with four boys crowing loudly at our neighbors, I am going to have to re-home them, & it is going to be hard to re-home the two partridge boys with the single combs .... they will have to go to pet homes .... & mostly they want girls. If the white sizzle Opal starts crowing too, I will just sit down & cry, I think :( But I have my 6 white pure silkies from my own white pair, who are now just over 2 weeks old :)
