I wanted silkie chicks for my new addition and found them available from purely poultry! I placed my order august 17, they hatched and shipped yesterday and the post office just called and they are available for pickup at 9am this morning! the brooder is ready, will update with pics this evening!! I was not expecting them realistically until tomorrow so i’m super excited!!!

Congratulations! :wee

Purely poultry Silkies aren't ANYTHING like you might get from a quality breeder... some don't even have feathered legs... But they are plenty cute... and like you said available. Plus affordable. And disease free! :)

I always crush my crumble a little extra for bantams... it has increased my survival rate for shipping. As has using poultry nutri drench. :fl

Hope you love them! :pop

where would i look for a “quality” breeder. all my chicks are absolutely adorable but I am concerned about 1 whose left leg and wing are not working properly. He is the smallest of the bunch and just so darned cute I hate to lose him!

Your babies are sooo cute! :love

If you aren't breeding or showing or worried about the standard of perfection then I wouldn't actually worry about the "quality". Really healthy and happy is important... and when hatching even quality breeders have some that don't make it... even without going through shipping. I know this first hand. ;) Since things can change so fast, start looking for a breeder if and when you get there. But enjoy these little guys fully and don't feel like they are less then... they will still be prefect enough.

Is your leg/wing chick making it to food and water, in and out of the heat? Is it being trampled or really sleepy? Is the leg constantly spreading out to far while standing? :fl

he holds that leg up mostly and hops across the brooder and or sits on the joint of that leg. he attempts to use his little wing on that side to hang on and steady himself. he has a wonderful personality and is getting food and water. he is not any more lethargic than the other chicks, and not really being trampled as i’ve seen chicks in the feed stores, but he does get knocked around a bit by the other chicks if he happens to be in their path. I started adding vitamins to the water today, they were vaccinated for mareks, and i’m using medicated starter food.

The chicks are all 4 days old now and zero losses. my little hoppy with the bad leg is still trying like crazy to keep up with his brooder mates! about 1/3 of them have names so far! we have hoppy, tiger, cheetah, froyo, and snowball!

I'll bet that little Hoppy will be the
Most spoiled one. I'm sure they will all be spoiled, but not quite as much. Maybe you could try to splint the leg to help him strengthen it. I'm no medical expert, so check before doing.
