I am pretty sure it is a forced air. My 1588 is, but it is not the new model, even though I just got it.

Thanks OP for this info! I just called GQF and they confirmed the only 1588's they are selling have the digital readout. I just purchased a new 1588 on Ebay (old style) and was about to order a second one to use as a hatcher- now ordering straight from GQF to get the updated one!

WHY O WHY DO I READ THIS WEBSITE????????????? A 1588 is tempting enough but now they went and made it digital.......My wife is gonna kill me if I get another incubator but how can you resist something so beautiful as this????? OMG I am in so much trouble it's not funny. got to think hard on a way to convince my wife that everything that I now currently own is obsolete and these are the WAVE OF THE FUTURE!!!!!! I knew i should have never clicked on this post......Hatchaholics should not have access to the internet, it only fuels our addiction!!!

Let me enable...I mean help you out here. When I have an evil plan (such as yours, lol) I start "conditioning" my husband

It goes something like this- Hunny, OMG they have the greatest new DIGITAL incubator! How cool is that! But of course my 1588 is so reliable and works fine and I still love it. Day 2- Wow, check out Ebay- people are buying USED 1588's for almost full price.Hmm... I just had this crazy idea- what if I buy the NEW one and sell my OLD one- would only cost me 20 bucks or so and I would have a new reliable incubator! Then I would go ahead and buy the new incubator. I would Tell him BEFORE I sell old trusty 1588 I want to do a test hatch with the new one and have an emergency backup- because you know these new complicated things never work as good as the old ones. Then before you know it I have 2 incubators full of eggs and I never get around to selling it. Of course it helps that my husband has A D D and forgets stuff pretty quickly (this used to annoy me, now I work it to my advantage)

I can just buy incubators,set them up and he will assume they have always been there. I order eggs and pop them in and he just figures he must have been told about it but doesn't remember. lol. I guess it helps that he likes having chickens and thinks he lucked out cuz I do all the work except building coops.
Sometimes it does drive me crazy that I tell him something and he quickly forgets but other times it does work to my advantage too! lol
