That egg color definitely rules out marans x. I have had a few marans crosses from my ee/oe pen, and the do NOT lay light tinted eggs like that. And I would assume any greenfire marans would be dark layers. I am leaning toward spontaneous mutation at this point. Too bad the mutant didn't luck out and have clean shanks! LOL but nooooooo... it is never that simple or easy, is it?

I have to admit that I am a pure ammeter to this entire genetics thing. So I feel a huge responsibility to the project. That Is why I am seeking a couple of advisers to work on the project. Ones that understand chicken genetics and breeding.

Janice I think felt that I was excited and would work hard on the project. As far as I know I am the only person that has these birds now. I know when she culled she just gave the culls to people for backyard birds or lawn ornaments and never told them what they were. So this rooster is the only one in the US maybe the world that is in a breeding program. That is a huge responsibility.

Janice, nor I have absolutely no reason to lie or fabricate this New Sussex color. Janice has been a long time customer of Greenfire. She has never believed in making obscene profits from any of her rare birds. She just loves beautiful and rare chickens and believes that it is just as easy to raise amazing rare birds as it is regular ones.

That said, what is the next step?
