New TN member

Hi everyone! Making the obligatory "new member" post .

We'll be getting our first chickens next spring, so we're researching and prepping.

We'll probably get around 6 females, and we're looking at building some variation of a chicken tractor, although I'd like to be able to free-range the girls. Primary goal is for eggs, but I'm hoping it will be a good experience for our 5 year old too.

Good on ya for coming here to research first! I think 6 is a good number to start with (as long as you have a decent sized coop for them--they would need ~6 feet of roosting space, but more never hurts). Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
