new to back yard chicken

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I agree with TwoCrows; with that dark barring, it looks like a pullet to me.) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Cute chick! Nice to have you join us!

Hey ,
Not new to chickens but new to the backyard group. I have many chickens. Enjoy having new ones around. Having trouble getting the chickens to lay eggs in nesting boxes. Any suggestions?

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

The best way to get hens to lay in the nest is to put fake eggs or even golf balls inside the nests. Then the hens see them and assume it's a safe place to lay since obviously someone else has laid there too.

Otherwise, you may have to confine your birds to their coop until they start laying in the nests.
