Hi everyone, Not only am I new to the board, but fairly new to raising chickens. I have 3 Buff Orphington Hens, and 10 little bantams. My bantams are a mix of Brown reds, Silver Duckwings, Blue DeUclle and Silkies. We started about 3 months ago with the chickens and found out alot of things by trial and error, so I'm looking forward to learning from the experts. Also one of my hens (blue Deuclle) is acting sick. She was puffed up this morning staying to herself, so tonight I separated her. It's been cold here, but they have a place to stay warm and with out a draft. She lost one of her best buddies a few days ago to a predator and she's been acting like she's all alone even with the other chicks. It's almost like she has a broken heart. Any advise on what I can do for her? All the other chickens are doing fine for now.

She may have a broken heart, give her some time, but don't let it go too long.
And if you think something isn't right, get back with us, somebody is always here to help.

Seldreth - IMO, it sounds like she is just missing her buddy. Chickens are very social and changes in flock dynamics can be stressful, let alone an attack by a predator. Keep an eye on her, give her some extra lovin' and I bet she'll snap out of it in a few days.
