Such a beauty ! I cant wait we go to pick out the silkie chick on Sunday the breeder I've been talking to has one paint left.WELCOME! I've had plenty of silkies and large fowl be together through the years. They would free range together and roost together. View attachment 1786229
Thank you for the awesome pointers. I'm hoping since the breeds I chose are reviewed as very docile things will go smoothly between all the girls.Hi!
Welcome to BYC!
Thank you so much for joining our wonderful flock!
I’ve never had a dog around my chickens (except the neighbors puppy that got loose but, he couldn’t get to them) so I’m not an expert on that at all! Lol.
If your daughter is interested in silkies, that should not be a problem at all except for a few minor things that can be fixed.
1. I’m told that silkies get colds easily. (In my experiences, my 1 silkie has never gotten a cold though)
2. Silkies are bantams which means that they are about 1/2 of regular chickens. They may get bullied by the larger hens. This is not always the case however as a friend of mine has lots of bantams and standard sized hens together.
Hope this helps! Congratulations on getting chicks! When the chicks arrive, don’t forget to post pictures! We LOVE pictures!
Thank you!
