New to Bumblefoot

I’m also treating bumblefoot right now.
My Pepper had it on both feet, just like yours. I did a bunch of soaking, peeled off the scabs (bloody and gross…made me sick to my stomach) and flushed/cleaned the open wound. We didn’t do any squeezing…when we tried she squalled and lashed out with her wings and feet, so I assume it was quite painful. So I just wiped with a diluted iodine solution and made sure it was clean. Then I smeared on some ointment and bandaged her up.

And I’ll get some ‘Now’ pics soon. It seems to be healthy and healing!

I’m glad she is improving!! I totally sympathize with the nausea too. I don’t deal well with this stuff at all!

You can squeeze just be extra gentle.
My Debbie has bumblefoot on both feet. I have been treating this for over a month. i use epsom salt to soak her feet, spray with Veterisyn Plus. i Did remove the black spot and removed a whole lot of thick yellow stuff, sprayed again and put in neosporin then dressed. apparently I am not getting it all, because it comes back in about 4 days. I have given her Tera Vet antibiotic injections which were working- but today, there is redness and a couple of new hard areas. What now??

I am having this issue as well, right now. All you can do is get as much of it out as possible, pack it with the antibiotics your using and keep on rapping and doing an epson salt soak. This will hopefully draw out the infection to the point where you can easily get it out.

Thank you, everyone! I thought I would give an update on Ginger. We had a rough start trying to treat her and get the scabs off her feet, but yesterday we were finally able to. I wrapped her in a towel and held her in a dishpan of warm water with Epsom salt for 15 minutes. My husband was then able to get the scabs off. Nothing really came out but there was a small hole left in the foot that is the worst. We sprayed it with Vetericyn plus and then used neosporin and covered in gauze and wrapped with vet wrap. Here are some pics of the bad foot before we wrapped it. You can’t really tell due to the Vetericyn, but there was a hole.

I kept her in a cage separate from the rest last night so she wouldn’t roost but today have let her be out in the run with the others. Her bandages still look good.

Our plan is to do the whole process again this evening, soaking, removing the scab if there is one, and using the spray and neosporin again.

I was thinking of trying a sugardine poultice instead of the spray and ointment tomorrow, to help pull out the infection. Thoughts? Nothing really came out last night other than a tiny string or two that we pulled out.

I'm sorry for all the questions. This is all new to us and we are worried about our girl!

Another question…should we be squeezing on the foot to try to get anything out? My husband did a bit last night but it seemed to hurt her so much, he stopped and we went ahead and wrapped it up.
You really should not have to be repeating the removing of the scab and cleaning out the foot. If it left a hole, then pack with the neosporin, wrap and let her go for a day or so. Do re-check the wound to make sure it's healing.
