Update a few mins before we joined this awesome community a lil chick of our keep choking and I thought it was food or they needs grit....turns out the waterer for the chicks had been spilling behind and filling the brooder box overnight and bcus we have a heat lamp the moister in the brooder had killed 5 of our chick we bought and 1 that we hatched!!🤔🤨 Maybe they was to hot and passed out and died ...nope the temp was consistent and the live ones werent panting !?!?🤒🥵🥵 so maybe they got sick when I open the window in my room got to cold...😑😑nope temp was consistent!! Didnt sleep for hours now crying bcus I lost so many when I would leave to the farm store no doubt. 🙄🙄😵😵 So what am I doing wrong why are they died maybe bootys are dirrty?!?! No way I check everyday...only 1 had booty that was dirty the last hatching, so what is it why is great creator testing me...one thing I didnt do was change out the woodchips and didnt notice how much food and woodchips piled up since I wasnt the only one watching them and some how the waterer empty overnight!!!!☺😉😁😁 Finally on top of the brooder I'm not leaving my babys side and keeps there water and woodchips clean as possible one of my chicks isn't doing good and almost lost her till someone said get them yolks clean the brooder and put probiotics water and separate them from all other chicks and make she they are warmer then before as they might have a cold soooo good news and bad news I can live with it since now I can get answers to my issue ...thanks for helping me but I think we got this baby making a comeback cross your finger and toes I'll update tonite!!😲😲🥱🥱if I dont pass out with this lol chick who is doing the best she/he can as they are only 2 weeks old idk what is which they are Batams...idk if I spelt that correctly but the smaller chickens lol🐥🐣🐔🐓🐤
Welcome to BYC!
Do you only have one chick?

Are you sure the chick can reach the water in that cup?

Usually it is good to have some sort of chick waterer that is low to the ground and that has very shallow water, so the chicks cannot drown in it. Some people add smooth, clean stones or marbles to the bottom of regular chicken waterers, which decreases the chance of the chicks drowning as well.

Also, Welcome to BYC! There is so much to see, do, and learn here! :welcome

The waterer is the smallest one around everyone getting water is was bcus the water spilled to the bottom of the woodchips in the brooder and I hadn't be home allday and asked someone else to watch the babys chicks ....which I will not be doing anymore since I'll be the only one watching them incase this happens again I'll knoq what to do. Since the water soaked into the woodchips and someone piled more woodchips ontop I didnt see it till today

Yes they all can reach it's the smallest waterer I can find that's not the problem but thanks for asking the brooder got wet bcus it spilled to the bottom of the woodchips and my cousin just cover them with more woodchips and didnt let me know when he was watching them and I went to sleep after checking them didnt notice bcus I was tired from traveling to pick up turkeys that day .
