New to BYC in Northwest Michigan

Hi! We are Sam and Scott. We live in Northwest Michigan with our two sons and dog. We're tucked back in the woods and looking to start our flock!

We are brand new to chickens, so we are in the research phase. Currently looking at coop designs and needs for chickens.

Please give any tips on new flocks! Breed recommendations that are friendly and cold hardy.

Is there anywhere to buy the specific breed you want in 1 quantity, or is it always a minimum order? We will have a flock of 6 (our max allowed for our area).
