HI I am new to your group so I am sending this out to introduce myself. My name says it all. I have 8 girls total and am told I spoil them. I also have 2 JR's , a cat, and a husband so they all keep me pretty busy. I got my girls last spring around may and all but 0ne have started laying around late Oct, early Nov. Which leads me to one of my questions. Does anyone have answers to these ? (Q ) One of my RR does not roost with the others and sometimes hangs out in the bottom of the coop after dark and then goes in under the heat lamp. (Q) It seems that I may only be getting one colored egg form either one of my Americanias, or could it be that hers is the lighter tan egg. I have looked for any hiding spots where she might be trying to lay, but I am wondering if the strange behavior from the RR is indeed her not laying? (Q) Why would I find an occasional red spot in an egg when I crack it open-(blood)? (Q) And occasionally, I get a tan with brown specks on it, not sure if that is normal (?) OK, thanks for any help I can get. LMG

Tan eggs with spots on the shell are perfectly normal.

And the blood you're seeing is just from when the egg was being formed, no biggie. Just pick it out with a fork if it bothers you.
Enjoy the forum!

from Ohio. If you have a heat lamp on, she smarter than the others and doesn't need to cuddle with them to keep warm. She goes for the best place in the coop.

Hey -Thanks for the Welcome and answers. I will rest easier. I was thinking maybe the eggs had been fertilized and that my one non-egg layers was a rooster impostor
