Welcome to BYC! I saw the pictures of your yard, nice green space. Plan on having a compost area convenient to your garden and chickens. It’s a great way to convert waste into lovely garden soil. I think considering where you live building the coop in a sunny area would be desirable. You could plant some deciduous vines or trees to the south and/or west sides to provide summertime shade. Absolutely plan on covering your run up there in winter wonderland! Congratulations on your new place and the new adventures coming with it.
 
Welcome! We are happy for your move, and the opportunity to raise chickens! You don’t need to worry about insulting the coop as much as proper ventilation, and plenty of room for days they spend all their time inside. Ask questions, make friends, and enjoy your new lifestyle!
