New to BYC, ready for fresh eggs!

Hello all!

We currently do not have any animals other than a pita cat and sweet dog. I live in unincorporated east Whittier, Ca. To my knowledge there is no chicken locally. I am thinking that 3-4 silkie (?) hens would be a good start. Feedback, comments and questions are all eagerly solicited at this point!

If you want info on silkies put "Silkie Thread," in the search box, and then post away. Silkies are very popular and there are several dedicated threads for them. Silkies are not great layers but, they may meet your needs.

Welcome to BYC - silkies are great but spend a lot of time going broody. You may want some other birds for egg production.

What is broody? Suggestions for egg production (prefer 3 & 6 year old daughter friendly) ?
