Greetings,
My name is Linda. My daughter and I have been raising chickens for about 2 years. We lost our house to a fire a year ago this last December. I now live south of Sells, AZ and will be raising chickens again. :)
I do have two questions, 1) Does anyone know how far down I need to bury the bottom of my fence to keep out coyotes, foxes, dogs etc?
2) Does anyone know where I can find rare Blue Golden Laced Wyandotte chicks for sale?

I take my fence to the bottom and the domestic dogs still try to dig in but the coyotes I have little problem with when it comes to fences .... Question # 2 I have no idea ...

BYC has a wonderful learning center

Welcome to BYC, Linda! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about the loss of your house!

That must have been very scary and devastating!

As for your questions, I would post about the one about the fence here as I am not entirely sure what to tell you: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/13/predators-and-pests

Secondly, I would post here to try and find some birds near you.

Thank you Gander007. Im pleased to meet you. Here in the Sonoran desert we have trouble with dogs, coyotes, wild dogs and occasionally the cow or horse who wander through the yard. :) I live on a reservation near the Mexican border.

Glad to meet you. Thank you for the links, I will be checking them out.
The fire was scary, but thankfully no one was home and all animals and feathered fruends were outside. We took all 22 chickens back to the Arizona feed store we bought them from and we were complemented on how healthy and robust they were. All 22 chickens were laying and were sold in 2 days time. I just hope the buyers are treating them just as well as we did.

Hi Linda and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. I wish you all the best with your plans for "round 2" in chicken keeping.

All the best

Wishing you the very best, in your new home. Try putting the breed/color in the searchbox and see what pops up. We have many Wyandotte folks, so maybe that particular variety is not very rare.

Hi Linda,

Sorry to hear about the house fire, that must have been awful to go through. I'm glad you get to have chickens again. Mountain Peeps has given you some good links to check out so I wish you luck with finding the birds you want.

It's nice to have you here!
