Hi there my name is Barb and we reside in central Oregon. We as in my 11 y/o daughter and I with our animals. We have had chickens off and on for 5 years and were originally free range until we got our husky puppy 4 years ago and each year the chickens would be destroyed, which was heart breaking. I was just hoping everyone could get along. After this summer's devastation of a male duck and our 4 young chickens hatched in March and due to numerous other factors we gave her away. I was going to keep her and not have any more small animals but I LOVE chickens. My dad helped me complete my barn wood chicken coop this summer that he calls a chicken barn. We currently have 1 female duck, she was the only one not killed this summer by the husky cause she was in the duck pool and the husky dislikes water. We got 5 chicks in July. We also got 2 female Nigerian goats that are currently free range until I complete their mini barn I will try to build when the ground thaws. Also the longest in our family is our lab/rot dog Moose who is 8 and we have had since we rescued him in Alaska at 4 months. We live on a acre on the outskirts of town. We are talking of getting more chickens and maybe ducks this spring. I'm not use to having chickens over a year old sadly. Anyway just saying Hi.

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Wow! What a sad start you have had to having chickens and ducks!!! I'm glad you found a new home for the problem husky. Both he and you deserve a peaceful home! A chicken barn sounds like great fun! Would love to see pictures!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

So sorry for all your losses. :hugs Unfortunately most dogs see chickens as a meal. Sounds like you have a nice little farm going now! :)

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!

:celebrate:welcome I’m sorry about your beginning, but so happy you’ve started again, and are here with us now!
I think it’s just wonderful that you are raising your daughter with the animals. I believe it will serve her well in her adulthood!
Are you milking your goats? I thought I didn’t like goat milk until I discovered it depends on the goat. I really look forward to seeing your pictures!
