Hello! We're new to BYC and just wanted to say hello. Our names are Mat and Lucy
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Have had chickens for many years and quail for just over 2 years
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
7 Chickens, 2 hens and 2 roosters
12 quail, 6 hens and 7 roosters (all living harmoniously believe it or not)
(3) What breeds do you have?
All the birds are rescues
2 x Isa brown ex-battery hens (Belle & Cinnamon)
1 x naked neck leghorn 'we think' (Gahl)
1 x Lavender fluff ball (Pickle)
1 x perhaps Buff orpington (Sunflower)
The roosters are Goose the Buff orpington and Chickpea is some sort of tiny Bantam
Our quail are Japanese coturnix
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We love looking after all the birds and giving them the care and freedom they deserve. They are such good little friends to have and each has their own unique and very cheeky personality.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We are both horticulturists so we love to spend time with our plants and in the garden
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We also have 2 rescue dogs, Odie and Maggie who love to watch the chickens as they scratch around the garden all day.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Have been reading peoples experiences on BYC for some time now and thought it was about time we became a bit more engaged with the community
