New to byc

Hi all thanks for the add.

Just looking for advice I've had chickens for just over 2 years now and looking to expand to hatching chick's instead of just eggs. We have a coup alrdy but the inaccessibility to the inside makes it hard to keep clean and in winter turns into a mud pit. I'm thinking of using my tack shed which houses our goat food atm it's 6m by 3m concrete floor has a single window that can be opened and a large door to access via a wheelbarrow to clean. Just seeing if there is any down sides to having a metal coup. Included a few pics of shed

Nice to meet you! I think that could work quite well, with some more ventilation, and insulation. It could get very hot in summer and cold in winter.

Cool I'll try convince the wife to give up her tack shed that holds one barrel of food currently haha

As said, definitely ventilation plus if it was me I'd partition off into a number of smaller areas.

There are threads and articles here on BYC that will give you a number of idea's to work with.

Getting adequate ventilation in there would be my primary concern. I would also want more windows for better light. If you have very cold winters and don't have adequate ventilation, the moisture from the birds respiration can condense on the ceiling and drip back down on the birds and cause frostbite.
